    Target Learner: Aircraft Marshallers

The fundamental purpose of a marshaller is to control the movement of an aircraft prior to and after the flight. This function is performed on the apron and occasionally on the taxiway; taking care and ensuring that the movement area is clear of vehicles and pedestrian traffic. This function is accomplished using ICAO APPROVED marshalling hand signals.

This course also provides an overview of the following:

    • Identifying and controlling hazards on the Apron,
    • General apron signage and marking.
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) required by marshallers,
    • Marshaller training and qualifications, and
    • Aviation definitions and abbreviations that will be important for marshalling.

    Course Objectives:

After completion of this course, learners will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate the ability to control the movement of an aircraft on the apron using the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) signals and recommended procedures and practices.
    2. Recognise apron markings and signage, as well as the inherent dangers in apron operations.
    3. Take appropriate action to minimise apron hazards, and report them to the relevant personnel.
