RVSM is the reduction of separation at higher altitudes to allow for increased traffic flow, in order to accommodate the projected increase in airline travel worldwide.

RVSM increases the number of flight levels available allowing for an increase in traffic, and allowing aircraft to optimise the flight levels for better performance, without compromising safety.

The objective of the RVSM course is to provide aircrew with the necessary theoretical and procedural knowledge to operate an aircraft in RVSM airspace and to ensure aircrew comply with the published aircrew RVSM approval requirements as appropriate.
